GIS APPLICATIONS
GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM APPLICATIONS
Geographical Information Systems is a new but promising application for bone histology. Building on the limited literature of applying GIS technology to histology, this project, in coordination with SFU’s Department of Geography, will be applying GIS software to map bone microstructure in three-dimensions. The current step in this project is to develop a new method of visualizing, measuring, and quantifying osteons. Ultimately, this will connect to my doctoral research of using histomorphometry for adult age estimation in the forensic context.
