PERSONALITY DISORDERS
PERSONALITY DISORDERS AND SEXUAL OFFENDING
Data for this research is derived from a large sample of male sex offenders incarcerated in Canada. Subjects were assessed for hundreds of developmental and biological factors, as well as social and environmental details surrounding their crimes. Sex offenders are often considered the most abhorrent of criminals, so research of this nature is crucial for prevention, treatment, and reduction of recidivism.
My research has focused on the prevalence of the ten personality disorders recognized by the Fifth Edition of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual , and various types of sexual offenses, include pedophilia, rape, and sexual homicide. It also seeks to determine other developmental factors that may predict forms of sexual offending.
This research is in progress and is in collaboration with the Centre for Research on Sexual Violence at Simon Fraser University.
