FORENSIC ASSESSMENT

ASSESSING THE STATE OF FORENSIC SCIENCE

In 2009 the National Academy of Science published a report on the current state of forensic science in the United States, known within the forensic community as the NAS Report. This document highlighted several challenges and shortcomings associated with various fields within forensic science that can have can have dire, justice-related consequences, including wrongful imprisonment.

In order to combat these failings, the NAS Report provided thirteen recommendations for strengthening forensic science. This research assesses whether these recommendations are being met by performing a qualitative content analysis on conference proceedings from the American Academy of Forensic Sciences annual meeting.

This research was presented at the 2nd Annual Symposium of the Centre for Forensic Research.
